Welcome to the RiNG – we’re glad you’ve found us.

We are a varied group of people with one thing in common – we all have Rheumatoid Arthritis and know how isolating it can be.

You’ve come to the right place if you would like to learn more about RA, make new friends, share support and have fun.

We are based at Hethersett Village Hall, just outside Norwich in Norfolk, where we have monthly meetings with guest speakers and also organise regular social events and outings for our members.

Do get in touch or come along to our next event - go to our Programme page at the bottom of your screen for details of upcoming meetings.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Mississippi River Boat Summer Trip

You'd have thought they'd have given us a discount after Carole Noades helped to steer the boat - but no such luck!

But she had a great day and emailed to say: "Please thank everyone involved in organising and making the trip on the Broads and cream tea possible."

We had a great afternoon out in Horning despite the usual British summer weather. Steve and Jayne Ranns braved the elements on deck and nearly froze   to death.

Those of a more sensible disposition, like Jean Claxton and Reg, stayed in the cosy lounge cabin, nice and handy for the well-stocked bar.

After that we adjourned to the Staithe 'n Willow for a substantial and much-needed cream tea with sandwiches and scones.

Not that that stopped some people from indulging in ice cream cones at the earliest opportunity - egged on no doubt by the younger members of the party.

As you can see, some people can resist anything but temptation. Hethersett Parish Council Vice-Chairman John Nightingale is  pictured here clutching his cone with Viv Hawes and her husband Richard who had been bird-spotting on the Mississippi River Boat

After that it was back on the coach to Hethersett Village Hall - plus the Brundall drop-off.

A Day to Remember

Elaine Bounds and Jean Claxton had a lovely afternoon out at Norwich Cathedral when they attended a thank-you service for voluntary organisations on behalf of THE RiNG.

It was hosted by Richard Jewson, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, and attended by representatives of a host of organisations ranging from the WRVS to the Salvation Army.
Elaine said: “Jean and I had a lovely afternoon and the service was very appropriate – a true celebration of voluntary service in Norfolk.”

Afterwards the pair of them had tea in the Cathedral cloisters, mingling – as you can see from the photograph - with the elite of Norfolk society and savouring the Lord Lieutenant’s Celebration of Voluntary Service.

Night out at the Queen's Head pub

We had a lovely time when THE RiNG assembled at our favourite Hethersett hostelry on a glorious summer evening.

The general view was that our first evening social event had been a great success and everyone enjoyed getting together just for fun.

"It gives everyone who can't get to daytime meetings the chance to enjoy THE RiNG experience," said Val Radley.

Chris Preston said: "It's nice to get away from health and RA for once."

The occasion was used to plan future outings - ranging from THE RiNG fielding a team for a quiz in October to a trip to the Theatre Royal in Norwich in October to see Hairspray.

Anyone interested in going can leave their name and number with our answering service on 0800 055 3637. But don't delay - tickets are going fast.

Well we'd said we'd do it, we were sponsored to do it, so despite the awful end-May Bank Holiday weather we had to do it for Arthritis Care!

Despite torrential rain, hail, high winds and temperatures under six degrees we still raised over £100 for NRAS at our Bank Holiday Monday fete.

Healthcare Assistant Sue Burrows told us all about her unusual hobby at our meeting on Wednesday 3rd March. When she is not meeting and greeting patients arriving in the Rheumatology Department at the N&N she helps to give talks about Norfolk survivors of the Titanic.

Doctors could soon be able to diagnose Rheumatoid Arthritis before it takes hold and prescribe medication to pre-empt the joint damage which is often the cause of all our problems.
